Final Writing Assignment: Personal Mission Statement

My vision in life is “To challenge”. In decision making process, people try to avoid risks by saying that “This choice is too burden for me” or “I do not want to fail”. Similarly, I sometimes avoid risky stuffs from time to time. However, I notice that this action just limits my potential ability. For example, one of my challenges is to manage an international debate tournament as a tournament director. It is hard to take on a lot of preparation for tournament by my direction. To divide work equally among group members, I come to take an initiative to do. I realized that I could not have done it before being a leader position. There are many difficulties waiting on from now on. Seeing optimistic view will get over from anxiety. Therefore, I want to challenge whatever I decide to do.

In addition, my core value is “People are Gods”. I got this value from a friend whom I met in traveling for Europe. This idea is pretty new to me. When I talk and communicate with others, I can learn many things which are unknown. They teach me new ideas, information, feelings, and ways of thinking. For example, I can understand my feeling clearly when I open my heart to friends. In addition, the advice from them cheers me up. Thus, I want to cherish the relationship with people I have met.

Writing Assignment 6

My conflict management strategy

It is interesting to know myself with questionnaire!

In five key concepts, the highest score goes to "Compromising".
I somehow agree that I am fill in that position.
It is because I cherish both relationship and my goal to achieve, depending on time to time.
With Positive thought, it seems to be flexible. On the other hand, it also seems to be unstable in negative case.

In my opinion, compromising strategy is used when people are conflict with others who are in similar position or status. Moreover, the time we have is short.
In this case, neither of groups want to withdraw nor force.

In fact, this strategy can be a preparation stage of confronting strategy.
In reality, limitation of time is unavoidable.
In order to make win-win situation, it is necessary to select key issue in conflict.
If the team vision and value is clear (Shackleton strategy1), the discussion will go smoothly.

Writing Assignment 5

From Chapter 8: "Ligten Up" question 1

My team celebrate success even it is small.
We applied for ICU dream competition in order to get subsidy from ICU alumni association.
Finally, we could not get good prize, but we got some subsidy anyway.
All of the member were glad to make effort for this competition.
Without celebrating, we lose the meaning to make effort for tournament and it is clear that it contribute for holding a tournament.
I feel happiness when we share the success to go next step because our effort is rewarded.

I was surprised at Shakleton's action. He clue members celebrated while they were waiting for rescue. (p.116)
If I were him, I would not be able to hold such a ceremony. What I would do is just waiting for rescue with anxiety.
From Shakleton action, I learned that we need to celebrate ourselves or what we have done especially in severe time.
In severe time, it is difficult to have room to praise what we have done.
Since we are depressed at that time, we rather need to get back our motivation.
In this way, our mind will soften and be relaxed, which leads to maintain aiming at our goal.

p.s. I was strongly impressed a rescue of mine workers in Chile.
With strong team work, they could endure in severe environment for more than 70 days.
I want to be such kind of a leader!!!!!!!!!

Writing Assignment 4

Answer the question 4 of chapter 7

During the process of teamwork, trouble is inevitable.

In my understanding, troublemakers and malcontents are different.
Troublemakers are lack of responsibility. For example, they do not respond to discussion.
In this case, I will notice them or tell them to do their work.
It is because they do not carry their responsibility.

On the other hand, malcontents are people who oppose the idea.
For example, there is a idea whether we should allow something or not.
Most people in the group agree with the idea but only one disagrees.
It is easy to make a decision in terms of the principle of number.
However, the fact that they have the idea because they think about the best way for team.
Therefore, I need to respect their idea even if it may be difficult to engage them.

In the text, there was a fact that Shackleton had a potential troublemakers in his clue.
Even in this situation, he kept his relationships with them.
Since a group work is long term, I think that keeping relationship is the best way.
Oh, it is close to win-win situation!
