My long term vision and short term goals

Organize people is difficult but fun. That is my motto and that is why I am the tournament director of 20^th ICU tournament that will be held next spring. ICU tournament is one of the international debate competitions, which has a long history. Not only I but also other committees will organize this tournament.

The goal of the organization is to success the tournament. Success does not mean 100 percent perfect. However, to prevent the problem or prevention of program at that day, much preparation for tournament and understanding within the group is necessary. Therefore, my personal vison is to make committee passionate for the tournament so that we can have good relationship and cooperate with each other. In this case, new mark means to improve the preparation than last year. For example, I try to hold the meeting at least once a week to share the information and discuss with the committees from now on. It is because there were few meeting in last year and I had the difficulty to understand the tournament itself. Without my saying about the gathering, nothing will start.

To achieve long term vision, short term goals are necessary. It is important to make and promise and keep trust with other people. If I can keep trust with committees, they will follow me and have more passion to do their work. For example, I submit an important document for before deadline. It seems that it is ordinary and natural things that we must do, but I try to finish small tasks. In addition, making mailing list and Google groups enable me to inspire the committee for the tournament as well as holding the meeting. In that way, we can make routine to say about ICU tournament to have the bases of management. Within the ICU tournament committees, engaging directions is to do mental diversion. Discussing too much about the tournament every day is boring and stressful. Therefore, we go to drink or dinner after the meeting or take rest during the meeting. It is enjoyable to hang out with committees after the meeting and we can also keep the motivation for the ICU tournament. The short term milestone of our organization is to keep the plan schedule. The measuring ways of our effort can understand by the planning and the time. We set our goal to finish the task within the week or month. For example, we have a plan to decide the role of committee in September. It is not necessary that we should always follow everything by the plan. However, it shows us the rough estimate to achieve the goal. Therefore, we can know the progress of the preparation.
